Microfiber Cleanroom Wipes: Materials, Cleanliness Class, and Selection Guide

Microfiber cleanroom wipes are among the most widely used consumables in cleanrooms and electronics manufacturing. They are designed for dust removal, liquid absorption, and oil cleaning on precision surfaces. Made from microfiber, sub-microfiber, or polyester fiber, their fiber fineness is far below that of ordinary fabrics, allowing them to capture fine particles and liquid contaminants without scratching the surface.

Each material has its own strengths. Polyester wipes offer high strength, good abrasion resistance, and low linting, making them suitable for general cleaning and repeated use. Sub-microfiber wipes balance softness and absorbency, ideal for sensitive surfaces such as optical lenses and display screens. Microfiber wipes have the finest fiber diameter and the largest surface area, providing the strongest water and oil absorption — the first choice for removing oil residue and liquids.

Cleanliness class is the key selection criterion. A Class 100 wipe corresponds to an environment with no more than 100 particles of 0.5 microns or larger per cubic foot of air; the fabric itself must be washed and edge-sealed to ensure low linting and low ionic contamination. For semiconductor and precision instrument environments, choose Class 100 or higher and request cleanliness and ionic residue test reports from the supplier.

Size and weight should match the wiping task. Common sizes are 4x4in, 6x6in, and 9x9in, with weights from 100 to 160 gsm: small sizes suit lenses and screens, while larger sizes cover equipment panels and chambers. Heavier fabrics hold more dirt and last longer, while lighter ones reduce cost. Packaging is typically 100 or 150 sheets per pack; keep packs sealed after opening to prevent recontamination.

When wiping, follow the order "clean areas before less clean areas, from center to edge", wipe in one direction without going back, and avoid recontamination. Results improve when used with suitable cleaning agents, provided they are compatible with the wipe material. For specific material, weight, or size requirements, state your application environment and cleanliness requirements in your inquiry so the right specification can be matched.
